Running Man is a South Korean Variety Show which is a part of SBS’s Good Sunday lineup. The first episode aired on July 11, 2010 and it’s currently the longest-running program on Good Sunday at 5 years.
Originally, Running Man was classified as an “urban action variety”, a genre of variety shows in an urban environment. The members and guests were to complete missions at a landmark to win the race and be exempted from punishments. Now the show has shifted to a more familiar variety show concept focused on games.
The original members of Running Man are Yoo Jae-Suk, Ji Suk-Jin, Kim Jong-Kook, Haha, Lee Kwang-Soo, Song Joong-Ki, and Gary. Song Ji Hyo was originally a guest for the second and third landmark (episode 2-3 and 4-5). She officially join the program in the fourth landmark (episode 6) but was unable to attend until the fifth landmark (episode 7). Lizzy from After School officially joined the program since episode 18, but has left the crew in episode 26 due to schedule conflicts. in April 2011, Song Joong-Ki recorded his last episode (episode 41) and has left the program to focus on his acting career. He returned on episode 66 as a guest.
This show has become popular in other parts of Asia, even reaching popularity outside Asia. It has been fansubbed into numerous languages, such as English, Spanish, French, Thai, Malay, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indonesian, Myanmar, Arabic, Brazillian Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish.
Running Man is currently airing at 4:50 pm KST every Sunday, along with K-pop Star 5, a survival audition competition show.
